Big ring time of year!

June 30th, 2013 - News

We are shifting into high gear at Criterium for July.  We will have another Rental Bike Sell-off, Thursday, July 4th, beginning at 8 a.m.    You may preview the bikes on the 3rd, but THERE ARE NO PRE-SALES.   This sales event will also include new bike close-outs, employee demo bikes, and mark-downs on our overstocked accessories and personal gear.

Our service department has done an outstanding job of staying current on repairs, with many jobs done while-you-wait, including all tire and tube installations.

Behind the scenes, Criterium staff continue to compete with quiet but impressive finishes.  Nic just completed Ironman Idaho in 10 hours, 15 minutes; Chris Kuhn won his 4th-ever mountain bike race, and Kelli won her 24-hour event in June.    We are all ready to help our customers find their inner champions, too.

smoke clears in Pikes Peak Region

June 15th, 2013 - News

After four days of high winds and smoke from the Black Forest and Canon City wildfires, we woke up to a sunny June morning on Saturday.   Many of our rental customers are worried about riding conditions.  It remains very dry here, but most trails remain open to mountain bikes.  Some good road riding north of Colorado Springs has been lost until the hot spot clean-up is complete, but the Air Force Academy loops remain open.

We are beginning to hear from our customers in the evacuated areas.  Some had their bikes here for repair, some bikes are lost, and many folks have not been back to their neighborhoods yet.  We have rentals for those who would enjoy a bike ride for stress relief.  We are grateful for all who survived.

the short story on mountain bike shorts

June 7th, 2013 - News

Colorado is a state of rugged individualists, so you may expect to see every type of cycling fashion on any given day, even on mountain bike trails.  It is common to see full fashion road kits in the backcountry, right alongside folks riding in knickers and wool jerseys.  The next group on the trail may have a smattering of bike shorts paired with motorcycle logo T’s.   Or even some ski base layer out there in broad daylight.

At Criterium, we recommend quality lycra bicycle shorts with liner-less mountain bike shorts.  This gives the most options for pairing the shorts with something over them (shorts, knickers, sweats), or just as-they-are on the hottest rides.   Those lycra shorts come in handy in the winter for spin class, too.
